Fun Seeking Sailors
187 boats
and their crews hit the warm waters of International Power's Hazelwood Pondage
over the recent Queen's Birthday weekend to race in the annual 2009 Latrobe
City Sauna Sail run by Latrobe Valley Yacht Club.
Saturday
afternoon started off with a moderate breeze with the wind moderating, Sunday
morning we were greeted by a 5knt NW abating during the day. On Monday morning
competitors finally had a10 -15 Knt SW breeze to finish the regatta.
Competitors
came from South Australia, NSW and Queensland as well as a good representation
from all regions of Victoria. Latrobe Valley is very lucky to have a great
waterway with water in it, as well as it being warm. A highlight for the
weekend was once again the Presentation for the Best Junior (under 16) competing
in an open division. This year's winner sailing a 125 dinghy, was Brodie
Coutts with crew Jake Nichols from the Black Rock Yacht Club. He came 1st
in his division of 19 yachts.
With
the support of the Latrobe City Council, International Power, Rolly
Tasker Sails and great conditions, the Latrobe Valley Yacht Club once
again provided great hospitality and an enjoyable weekend for all.
